Faith Brown
Iconic Entertainer Faith Brown has a career spanning 30 years.
Faith’s career started when she was just three years old, when she was encouraged by her publican grand parents to entertain the regulars. Faith was spotted by her future manager as a gawky 16 year old, amongst the faces of hopefuls at a local talent contest. He suggested she sing with the band he had formed with her brothers, ‘The Carroll’s’, later to be known as ‘Brotherly Love’.
Faith joined the Four Tops on tour when they toured in 1972. They referred to her as their 5 Top! The true soulful voice of Faith fit in with the true Motown roots of the Tops. Faith continued to tour along with Tom Jones however this time it was throughout Asia, Japan and Australia.
Faith then took to the road as a solo artist where her talent for comedy came to light. On March 21 st 1973, Faith was belting out one of her raunchy songs when the zip on her dress burst open. On the spur of the moment, to hide her embarrassment, she put on a Hilda Baker voice (at the time a current Coronation Street character) asking for stage help to get some safety pins – always a trooper, Faith continued to do the impressions, tugging her cleavage together as stage hands came out and pinned her up! The house roared with laughter. Her big impression was left on a producer from Granada, and on back of this Faith was given a spot on LWT’s “Who do you do?!” Thus began her TV comedy career.
In 2001 Faith was personally offered the lead role as Norma Desmond by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Faith performed to rave reviews following in the footsteps of such actors such as Patti LuPone, Diahann Carroll and Glenn Close.
Webber quoted saying:
“…Faith Brown… an amazing actress.”
Faith also released a CD of songs from the show including “The Perfect Year” and “As If We Never Say Goodbye”.
